aH-Controlled: Ventilation and dehumidification as key factors for sustainable building preservation and creating a feel-good climate

aH-Controlled is a leading ventilation and dehumidification technology, based on the absolute humidity as the most important measurand and is embedded in all ZILA climate control systems.

How high humidity levels can affect both people and buildings

As soon as the effects of too high humidity levels in the indoor air become visible with the naked eye, it is about time to react! The reasons for this phenomenon are many and varied and must be recognised and identified early before they can cause damage to the building, your environment or even your own health. Some of these causes are illustrated in the following chart. The most common of these include moisture and mould.

Which factors can cause excessive moisture and which impact does it have on people and buildings?

In different kinds of buildings, the various causes and effects can occur individually or in combination. So, therefore it is urgent to take action!

aH-Controlled: Ventilation and dehumidification based on the absolute humidity

One possible solution for maintaining a comfortable feel-good climate, as well as for protecting your own health and for preserving a building is automatic, controlled ventilation and dehumidification.

In this context, "aH" describes a ventilation method on the basis of the absolute humidity, considering the climatic conditions inside and outside a building.

The absolute humidity is a physical reference variable that represents the actual water vapour content in the air. The climate control with aH-Controlled technology automatically uses the temperature and the relative humidity, which are measured with an indoor and an outdoor climate sensor, to calculate the absolute humidity.

How aH-Controlled works

As soon as the climate control determines that the moist air in the room can be exchanged for drier air from outside (aH outside < aH inside), a fully automated ventilation process is initiated by triggering the connected supply and exhaust air elements (fans).

Here's a summary of what you should know about ventilation and dehumidification, based on the absolute humidity ("aH-Controlled"):

  • It is essential to consider the climatic conditions indoors and outdoors and to evaluate the absolute ("actual") humidity for a sustainable success in terms of dehumidification and proper room ventilation.
  • "aH-Controlled" removes humidity from the room in a controlled and reliable manner and maintains a constant indoor climate (optimum temperature/humidity ratio).
  • "aH-Controlled" is an advantageous economic method for controlling the indoor climate. It not only takes temperatures into account and therefore carries out ventilation processes mostly without heat losses but also works in a very energy-efficient way.
